This blog post is only a personal opinion and dont intend to criticize the vendors or products in anyway.
The first day I landed at he job, I had to go to a Data center at customer premises.
They have 3 virtualized platforms running in production network.(I really have no idea why they are going with 3 virualized platforms)
1. VMware
2. Hyper-V
3. OVM (Oracle)
There were 5 web servers running on a OVM host. 2 Windows based and 3 Oracle hardened linux.
The OVM keeps crashing and the VM's shows as they are running but actually they are not.
This happened like 3 times on the day alone I was there.
Customer wanted all these VM's to be migrated to VMware.
Customer had suggested a Oracle Hardened Linux (OHL) standalone server to be migrated. (P2V)
First few attempts failed in doing so.
That required the iptables on OHL to be turned off. (Temporary measure)
Then it failed with - "FAILED: unable to obtain the IP address of the hleper virtual machine."
